For everyone still guessing, this year marks the centenary of Herge's birth. To celebrate this important date for Belgian culture, a new cartoon was unveiled recently (10 January) at the Eurostar / Gare du Midi station in Brussels.
This is just a hint to what will follow tomorrow. A premiere in Brussels, obviously linked to Herge and one of his most famous characters. Anyone guesses what this is all about? To give you a hint: Paris hosts an event linked to all this.
Walking through Brussels, the capital of art nouveau/ art deco you will come across signs like these quite often. The only thing you have to do is look up.

No, it is not the church. But what really annoys me is the constant grey sky ... every day, every seazon, grey sky wherever you look. Oh, and the rain! Don't even get me started on the rain. 
Yesterday I was announcing the little tour we will take through Saint Gilles/ Sint Gillis. Here a wonderful door marking the side entrance to the commune town hall. 
I have mentioned the Brussels communes before. All in all there are 19, which divide Brussels. Now it is time to show you (virtually) around the Saint Gilles/ Sint Gillis commune. Here a statue found in front of the maison communale - the commune town hall.
Back to rainy Brussels, after a short time spent in rainy Milano. And one of my favorite art spots at the Brussels Airport: the corner of vintage stamp art. Wonderful. Our very own Grand Casino Brussels. Opened last year, it seems to bring together play, music and food. The restaurant is said to be very good. And there is classical music played on Sundays. All combined with the possibility to become a millionaire. What more could you wish for?

A little bit of blue sky, a little bit of art. The Musée des Beaux-Arts as seen in the back court. 
When you are in Brussels you have to stop by the Sablon area (more on that at a later date). Now there you'll find a busy corner cafe, Le Grain de Sable. A must! Quite a poze'y little place, but everyone at one point or another had a drink there. So sit down, relax and enjoy.

Another year, more cartoon murals from Brussels. I will try as much as possible to bring you a new one every week. This week, the Patrouille des Castors, based on the aventures of a boy-scouts group. The series was created at the beginning of the 50's by MiTacq (Michel Tacq), and turns around the adventures of 5 boy scouts.
I posted before on funny signs. Now a very confusing 'deviation' sign, poiting in all directions.
And ... I'm back!
I am not sure if the graffiti Sunday will transfer to 2007 as well, but I came across this little girl (?) on a wall and thought it was pretty cute. Although I have to admit that chaotic graffiti left and right is probably not always the best.
How many of your started the diet yet? I know I tend to start the year with a new diet and new resolutions. Maybe I'll keep them this year as well.
I came across this strange plastic man with a balloon last year, down town Brussels. Not sure if he still is there. But I do wonder what he stands for and if this was an art project, what does it mean?
I came across this quite strange sign above a little shop, lost on one of the sidestreets of Brussels. An interesting (I wonder if accurate) description of all the different palm shapes. If you click on the photo you will get to see the writing in detail. My favorite is the 'Succes devant les filles' meaning, lucky with girls.
For all you chocolate fans out there here another 'treat'. Neuhaus, another famous chocolatier in Belgium (Brussels).
I came across this guy down town Brussels. His speciality is the pipe and making the dolls dance by tapping his feet. He always attracts a crowd so I was quite happy when he posed. Of course, I forgot to give him one of my Brussels DP cards ... next time better luck.
What better way to start the year 2007 than with the best photo of the year 2006? I don't know if it was the best but it was the most viewed one and ... a surprise to many.
