The last of the Brussels Christmas market. Soon the Christmas market will end, a new year will start and all the happy Santas will go home.

You probably noticed a whole outdoorsy theme going on. I took this photos just outside Brussels, trying out different new ... gadgets. So to speak.

A little bit more of Brussels. This time the Brussels Airport entrance (just in case you get lost).

Only in Belgium: giant speculaas Santas and an extra-ginat chocolate gentlmen (third from the left). Talk about an urgent diet in 2007 ...

Didn't catch their names ... but I know they are from Lapland. Or at least representing Lapland at this year's Christmas Market. Didn't try that polar drink either. But I did give them my little Brussels Daily Photo card, so if you drop by, hello Lapland!

Lace. Very popular in Belgium. If you ever go around down town Brussels, you are bound to come across this lady/ doll weaving lace outside a shop. A tourist attraction and at the same time a clever advertising for the lace shop behind.

Back to the Sunday cartoon mural. This time let me introduce you Blake and Mortimer.
This particular cartoon mural shows the cover of the most famous comic strip album in the series 'La Marque Jaune' (The Yellow Mark). A mysterious criminal, who leaves a yellow M behind as trademark, is carrying out spectacular thefts. Thus Francis Blake (a police captain) and Philip Mortimer (a professor) are called to solve the case.
Exciting!

Other cartoon murals on Brussels Daily Photo, which I know many of you liked, were:
There was also the unknown one which is still a mystery.

Escargots ... or as they are else known, snails. A Belgian delicacy.

'Brussels gets on the bike. And you?' (Bruxelles se met au velo. Et vous?)
This is how the city of Brussels started its campaign for the Cyclocity initiative. 23 bike stations are spread across the city, where bikes are available 24/7. Thus, in principle, one could visit the city by bike.
Then again this is Belgium (Brussels) and notorious for its bureaucracy. We used a similar system in Berlin and it worked perfectly fine. However in Brussels you need to first own an insurance number before you register with this service. A shortcoming for all tourists who would be most likely the first to make use of such a service.
I would love to hear if your city has similar bike services and how it works. Happy ride!

Another art nouveau architect in Brussels, Paul Vizzavona. I like how his name and the number of the house have been cleaned and whitened.

I came across these artists whilst strolling through down town. There is something both fascinating and sinister about this Vincent Van Gogh duo, don't you think? Down town Brussels you find a lot of impersonators.
I also left them my card so I wonder if they'll drop by ... if so, let me know :)
