To end our little trip through Durbuy – the smallest city in the world – a last picture of one of the trademarks of the city: the wheat market. Already mentioned in 1380, the timber framed wheat market stand out amongst the other houses in Durbuy. The façade was recently painted in red.

I hope you enjoyed this virtual trip through Durbuy. There is a lot more to see, a lot more to discover – like beer and gaufres (or waffles as they are known) – and picturesque details can be found at every doorstep.

I know it is Easter Sunday. And I am sure (well almost…) that the City Daily Bloggers might come up with a special Sunday theme. As I am abroad I will have to miss this one out (again). Instead some yellow flowers hanging off the ancient walls of Durbuy.

Sunday would be the day for a grand picture, like the Castle of the Counts of Ursel, built in the 11th century. Yet I’ll keep the picture light and spring-y, and who wants to see the Castle, can click here.

Ten thousand years of history are hidden on the streets of Durbuy, and carriage rides can be taken to see the beauty of the city better.

We decided to start with the Tourism Office, where you can find information on the city as well as the region. An impressive number of activities are on offer, amongst them lots of nature and gastronomic walks.

Today and during the Easter weekend I will take you for a little tour through Durbuy. Durbuy, you ask? What is so special about Durbuy?

Well, first and foremost it is the smallest city in the world. Durbuy was oficially recognized as a city in 1331 and is today a very touristic yet incredibly beautifully preserved city. Enjoy the visit.

Keeping in the spirit of Belgium and the love for cartoons: the current campaign on garbage bins to keep Brussels clean. Everyone is a winner.

A funny anecdote to go with this picture: while taking it, two children (age 7 to 10) approached me asking 'Madame, vous etes journaliste?'. Totally flattered by the 'journalist' reaction. Still have to decide how I feel about the 'Madame' :)
