Au delà de l'espoir

An interesting sculpture was recently placed in Matonge: Au delà de l'espoir - on the other side of hope. The sculpture is by Congolese artist Freddy Tsimba and entirely made out of bullets. A very striking sculpture. A message against war and misery, as it was said when made public.

Not entirely sure what it means, but it caught my eye. There used to be a graffiti Sunday right? :)

GO

If you come across one of these, they are ticket wending machines. Quite cool. Although problem is you don't find them everywhere.

Agorafolly - Vandalised

One of the vandalised pieces of art. You might notice something is missing?

Agorafolly

As I was mentioning, the Europalia includes several events. One of them is the Agorafolly, a public display of art. Very controversial discussions at the moment as many works of art have been destroyed by vandalism yet the city doesn't seem to do anything about it ... so the artists took matter into their own hands. A very much needed initiative.
Oh and btw, Belgium still doesn't have a government!

Europalia

Europalia started at the beginning of October. A cultural event meant to bring together different artists from the EU. A very interesting event, which is worth a visit if in Brussels. Here, the red curtain symbolises the division between the 'big' and the 'small' art. 'Curtain' is done by Polish artists Kaska and Went.

Halloween

You might have noticed a very long (painful!) silence around here. Well, real life, a lot of work, starting a post graduate etc took their toll. I will try to be more 'daily' but then again I can not promise anything. Sorry for that and I hope you'll bear with me :)
